Sessie Schadegevallen en Reparatie

Donderdag 21 november 2019

Sessievoorzitter: EurIng. Staf Huysmans, IWE, Fweldl · Laborelec (BE)

10:00 Investigation of the conditions for stress corrosion cracking of T24 material in high temperature water — Dr. Ing. Christian Ullrich · VGB (GE) — EN

Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) was initiated in welds of T24 (7CrMoVTiB10-10) material during the commissioning of several new build plants. In this work first a test set-up is developed in which different material conditions under variation of operational aspects especially the media and the mechanical load can be tested. Experiments are realized to define thresholds for the operational water chemistry parameter avoiding SCC where possible. Furthermore aspects from production and fabrication such as the influence of carbon content in the material, the weld build-up and a heat treatment will be investigated. Looking at all the achieved results, it becomes obvious that the cracking is caused by an interaction of hydrogen-induced and anodic SCC.

Tim Buyle, IWE/EWE · Weldone/Hye (BE)

11:00 Best Practices and quality assurance for P91 field repairs — dr. ir. Evy Debruycker · Laborelec (BE) — EN

9%Cr Steels such as P91 remains one of the most widely used materials for high temperature steam piping applications for power plant boilers and heat recovery steam generators. Even if the fabrication and more specifically the welding requirements are well elaborated in standards, literature and return of experiences, it turns out that still today errors are made which result in acute failures and/or questionable remaining lifetime. Resolving such errors in an economical way, respecting restricted downtime periods and limited warranty coverages has proven to be not always an easy job. The presentation will give a refreshment of the known requirements of P91 fabrication and a case of P91 repair will discussed highlighting the difficulties of translating these requirements into practice.

11:30 Koffiepauze

Wim Verlinde, IWE/IWI-c · BIL (BE)

12:30 Alloy 52MSS Structural Weld Overlays and Safety Relief Valve Piping Realignment Lessons Learned — ing. Stijn Vancluysen, IWE · Tractebel (BE) — EN

The full structural weld overlay (SWOL) solution was selected by Engie Electrabel as a mitigation technique to reduce susceptibility to primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC) of the existing nozzle-to-safe end dissimilar metal welds (DMW) in alloy 82/182 on pressurizer upper nozzles. Prior to implementation, an extensive evaluation of alloy 52MSS weldability was conducted including tests for: weld quality, non-destructive inspectability, and mechanical testing as well as fullfidelity mockups of simulated components with alloy 82/182 DMW. Results and observations of the testing and field applied overlays are discussed.
