Electrochemical testing

Electrochemical tests can quickly give information on the corrosion resistance of a metal.

For example, for stainless steel, the pitting resistance can be determined in a certain medium. For carbon steel for example, the general corrosion resistance and corrosion rate can be estimated.

Electrochemical testing are also used for estimating galvanic corrosion between two different metals.
