Visual examination

Visual examination is the first and most important step in failure analysis. It allows to assess the extent of the damage and to evaluate how to substantiate the root cause through further examination.

Primary and secondary damage

Primary damage

Establishing the root cause of a failure requires knowledge of the exact circumstances in which the component was used. For this reason, BWI insists on performing on-site inspections. Our experts have the equipment and the qualification to take samples, develop replicas and offer comprehensive advice.

Secondary damage

Construction or component failures can have many causes. Such degradation can be the result of corrosion, bad weld design, the use of inappropriate materials or other shortcomings. The Belgian Welding Institute (BWI) has the knowledge and the equipment to find the true cause.
